WhereCamp2008Announcement

WhereCamp 2008 May 17th / 18th Googleplex Campus Mountain View CA.

Hello all,

We're excited to report that Google has offered WhereCampers space, food and a place to pitch our tents at the Googleplex Campus 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View CA on the May 17th / 18th 2008 weekend.

All of us in the community would like to extend an invitation to participants from all walks of life to join us again this year at WhereCamp 2008.  To talk about art, volunteered geographic information, social place sharing, emerging open source and open data licensing problems, sharing gps tracks, ubicomp, immersive reality, lidar, environmental, political and technical issues surrounding place, games, food webs,  open street maps, openlayers, place hacking and whatever else catches your heart.

We want to go out of our way to encourage diversity; to encourage cross-pollination of ideas in a congenial, warm and extended atmosphere within the community that we are so privileged to be a part of.

Just like last year WhereCamp is the weekend after the O'Reilly Where 2.0 Conference - which itself is in Burlingame CA May 12th to 14th.

What actually happens at WhereCamp this year is up to us to decide.  The plan is to kick-off pretty early Saturday Morning at 9:00 AM May 17th with breakfast on campus.  At 10:00 AM Saturday we'll do a call out for session ideas and collaboratively build out a session schedule for the day.  Of course everybody is welcome to raise their ideas and projects for discussion.  Sessions will go all day and then we circle back around 5:00 PM or so for a recap and a close.  There'll be lunch and dinner and late night discussion and hacking.

We have the run of a portion of the campus with projectors and white-boards as well as access to a kitchen.

Everybody is welcome to stay on campus Saturday night, bring a tent!

Sunday May 18th we do the same thing again; starting with hot breakfast, doing session planning for the day, doing sessions and doing a closing circle a bit earlier - around 4:00 PM and then heading home or for an off campus dinner.

Everything is free including food and beer.

See the WhereCamp links below for registration.

Please register because it helps us plan for our food budget and for things like t-shirts and sponsor budgets.  Depending on the number of registrations we may even have to cap attendance this year on a first come first serve basis.  If you need ride-share or accomodations or want to post comments please see the wiki links below as well:
